I am Tasha, I am seventeen years of age and I am a crown ward of the Peel Children's Aid Society. I am currently living in a foster home where emotional, physical abuse and neglect take place. Constantly, I am threatened and blackmailed, not to mention manipulated by my case workers. After being a witness and victim to abuse and neglect that takes place in foster/group homes, I have finally decided that enough is enough, I will not let CAS try to control, abuse, neglect me and decide my life decisions, as well as abuse and neglect other kids that are in the system. I want to help, I want to make a difference because I know how it is being trapped and controlled in a society where you do not have a voice because no one cares enough to listen.

I do not have that much time left in the CAS, I've completed my time, but for the other children that have to suffer and be victimized to abuse and neglect, that is something that I want to prevent. CAS no longer scares me, and that is why I am here today, writing this, because I have said, enough is enough to the abuse and neglect CAS brings onto children. I am standing up for those children who cannot have a voice because they are too scared, controlled and manipulated. Also for children that are smaller and cannot say anything because they cannot defend themselves.

CAS is like the novel written by George Orwell "1984", if anyone has read that, they will understand where my reference will come from. 1984 is about what life is like being controlled, manipulated and blackmailed by the government. No emotion, no feeling, no privacy and if you disobey, you vanish and are never seen again. This novel is exactly how I feel being in the CAS. Controlled, frightened, manipulated, CAS might as well put video/audio cameras in our bedrooms. Wouldn't surprise me one bit if they have.

How can the government sit there and do nothing? When children like me are crying out for help, going against the Child and Family Services Act to get help. There shouldn't be a law preventing children in CAS to speak out for help. Although now it makes sense as to why, so CAS isn't reveilled for the corrupted society they really are. CAS has caused me trauma, that will take a lot of healing to overcome.
